How we make money
The Surrey is funded by advertising: venue listings, sponsored features, newsletter placements, Instagram packages and area sponsorships. We do not run programmatic display advertising, and we do not sell your data.
What advertisers cannot buy
- A review, or the outcome of one.
- A position in a ranking or a “best of” list.
- Removal or suppression of unfavourable coverage.
- Sight of an editorial piece before publication, unless it is their own sponsored feature.
How paid content is labelled
Every paid placement carries a visible label. A sponsored feature has a persistent bar at the top of the page naming the partner, a disclosure line above the article, and a label on its card wherever it appears in a feed. A featured venue slot in a directory is marked Featured partner. A newsletter placement is marked Partner.
Sponsored articles are excluded from our homepage lead slot and from trending. Links to partners carry rel="sponsored", so they pass no search ranking value — we tell buyers this before they book rather than after.
Affiliate and booking links
Some outbound booking links may earn us a commission. Where that is the case it does not affect whether or how we cover a venue, and the link is marked.
Gifted meals, stays and press events
Where a meal, stay or treatment was provided free of charge, we say so in the piece. It does not buy a favourable write-up.
