The Town House sits on Haslemere High Street, in a period townhouse, and works as a cafe-bistro rather than a formal restaurant. That distinction matters. It is the sort of place you can go to for coffee and a slice of cake without feeling you have under-committed, and equally somewhere you can sit down properly to brunch or a light lunch. The setting is described as refined but relaxed, which in practice usually means you need not dress up, but the room is not casual to the point of being noisy.

The ££ price band puts it in the middle. Not a cheap high-street stop, not an occasion restaurant. For most people that reads as: reasonable for what it is, particularly given the building and the position. If you are choosing between somewhere to eat properly and somewhere to pause between errands, The Town House is pitched at both.

Brunch and afternoon cake are what it is best known for, and the baking is done in-house. That shapes who it suits. A late weekend morning with a friend. A mid-week break in town. Somewhere to take a visitor who wants to sit for an hour without a long, heavy meal. The address is the High Street, so it is central and walkable from most of the town centre, but High Street parking in Surrey market towns is rarely straightforward, plan for that rather than assume. We do not have opening hours or a current menu to hand, and cafe-bistros of this kind often change what they offer week to week, so it is worth checking directly before travelling any distance. Likewise, we cannot say whether booking is needed; weekend brunch in a small period building tends to fill, so a call ahead is sensible if you are a group.

Haslemere has a High Street that rewards walking rather than driving through, and The Town House reads as part of that: a sit-down place in an old building, aimed at people who are already in the town rather than people driving in specially. On that basis it does a useful job. If you want cake and coffee somewhere with a bit of character, or brunch that is a step up from the ordinary, it is a straightforward recommendation. Just go in the daytime, and check first.
